Saturday in the playpark

Our granddaughter came for a visit, and we went to the playpark. She had lots of fun and didn't want to leave, but the sun was burning her skin, so we left, and started watching Dora the Explorer.

I also took a picture of the Saturday Sky.

Our cat, Oliver wanted to pose for a picture also, so here he is standing, and waiting for treats.

Knit & Crochet show in NH 2007?

Oh, I want it to be true. I checked the directions from here to Manchester, and it's only an 8 hour trip. That is definitely doable. Wow, I would be more than happy about that.

On the local news, or national, which ever way one wants to take it. Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss have published a new book "new ideas for today's crochet", and guess what, I have my necklace in that book, on pages 126 and 127. I have decided to have a double shot of coffee to celebrate.

I need to start planning for the trip to Manchester. Maybe I will drive there, maybe not. If I have no other choices to fly than with Air Canada, then I will drive.

Actually, driving there excites me, unless the gasoline goes up a lot more by then (July, 2007).
Everything will be higher in prices then, so that has to be taken into consideration.

Doll number two

The Doll for my nephew's little girl is now done. She will be shipped, if not tomorrow, then on Wednesday.

I think I will do something else for the rest of this week. There is a baby doll to stuff, and finish off, and that will be it for now.

Doll for my nephew's daughter

I could not wait longer, I had to post a picture of the new doll which does not has a face yet.
That will be yet another doll picture. I should name my blog reflecting dolls. Nah, I do other things, too. Right now I am on a doll kick. The skin color is off quite a bit. But my skills with the photoshop are still on the simmering stage. At least I know how to crop, so the picture doesn't have all the extra mess around it, only a little bit. You see, when I am ready to take a picture,
I just take it, without planning the set-up. In this case I did put the needles on the doll's hands, but just to keep them from flying outside as wings. Don't ask.

I was going to make a little jacket for the doll, but the word bolero keeps haunting me, and I don't have a pattern for that neither. Do I have to create a little doll bolero now? Sheeesshhh.
Or a shawl.

You should see what else I found in those boxes. UFOs...unfinished objects. Objects, indeed, because some of them made no sense. Most of them did, though. I must have planned to make an octopus at one time, because I found a head, actually three, but one set of legs in black, and one finished leg in green. Must have been an alien octopus. Three heads, seven legs, hahah. Ok, so three different color creatures, sounds better.

I know I have a box full of doll parts, in one of my closets. If I am in a doll kick now, NOW would be the right time to dig them up and FINISH them off. But that would not be logical, would it?

I was reading Janet's blog this morning, and she's telling about her mountain in the hallway, and if anyone would like to visit her and stay over, they should bring mountain climbing gears. Well, that sort of goes in this place, also. I think Janet and I should get together. Hey, we could meet in Kansas!

I think I will put the boxes in the hallway, in the orderly fashion as in staircase. I have such bright ideas sometimes.

Saturday, August 05, 2006

Nothing exciting has happened in the last week, other than I started another doll for my nephew's little girl. I even tried to write the pattern down as I was making it. I tell yas, it's a slow process. Even with just writing k1, k2 takes away from the needles.
I have the doll made minus the face. Right now working on a little dress/pant. I am just too lazy to make underpants and then a dress. This dress looking pants are fine. After that I will make a little jacket, and then the face. I should be done...the operative word here is "should", by Monday.

I have spent most of today organizing different yarns. Hubby and I went to get some boxes from the locker room, five to be exact. It was time consuming, but fun work. Why didn't I sort the yarns when I was putting them in those boxes, I will never understand. Never is such a definite word, I think I understand now, I was in a great big hurry when I was clearing the extra bedroom which I needed for our guests a few years ago. So, you can imagine that the yarn in the boxes isn't from this year or last year. I even found a receipt from a yarn store that was dated in 1998. Oh, and then there were some yarns from waaaaaaaaay back when I did my first afghan, and that was in the 70's. I did my next one just a few years ago. I'm not really an afghan maker. I will make one, if I have to, but out of mere pleasure, no.

I can only imagine what is in the 30 other boxes that are in the locker room. I don't think I need to buy any new yarn ever again. What a neat idea.

Doll was a success

Our granddaughter LOVED the new doll!

Dora's sister Noora has arrived

Finally, after such a long trip, Noora is here.

She was fun to make, and an experience in a way, in trying to match the original doll, and failing somewhat. Therefore this one is a sister for Dora.

If I am truthful, I really wasn't too worried of the look, just the eyes, and when I had made about 5 pairs I finally said that's it, these eyes must go on the face. Krazy Klue is wicked, if you are not careful, you might not get things straight. I still have some glue on my fingers.

Noora is very soft and huggable. She stands 18" tall. I am pretty pleased with the end result. I used Acrylic yarn and washable stuffing. The whole doll is washable. The bracelet is the only thing that comes out. Oh, and the pant/dress and jacket, of course.

Update number 2 or 3 on Dora Doll

There are so many updates now that I get confused.

Crappy thing happened yesterday. I was happily knitting the shorts for the doll and was elated when I did the last cast off. This doll's feet are so big that I had to put the pants on before I sewed (?) the in-seams. Guess what, the pants are TOO small. crappety crippety crapppp crappp. Start again, and I didn't even have too much of that light lavender left. I added a lot of stitches and then knitted and knitted, and got bored, nothing new there. I decided to add some stitches, and went double on the whole thing, then knitted two or three rows and finished off.
I sewed (again the spelling?) the middle part to make the "skirt" - now look like pants.

Boy, the skirt/pant is CUTE, of course, in my humble opinion.

Has any of you ever tried to get worsted weight yarn thru a button hole that is meant for sewing thread? I tried, and broke a piece of the side of the hole, but it was still good. So, I took a
piece of thread, fed it thru the hole and then fed the yarn thro the loop of the sewing thread.

I now have WW yarn thru the button hole that is meant for sewing thread.

Have you noticed how many friggiiingg times I have used the word "sew..."In one form or other?
I hate sewing, and seeing that word so many times here, gives me chills.

You will get the picture of the doll later this afternoon, I hope. I am working on the hair now, and ... Oh, I created the eyes yesterday, and they are too small.

too small too big, that is the problem when one does not have a pattern, and has to invent one.

I decided to take a picture now, don't forget that I am still working on the hair, and then she needs a button on the jacket, and a bracelet, and of course the face.

Dora Doll development

I was knitting happily, most of last night. Ignoring good programming on TV. We watched something, but don't remember what. Hubby made hamburgers and mashed potatoes, and I was very happy. I have leftovers for lunch, and can't wait for my lunch hour.

Dora doll is progressing nicely. The body is done, arms are done, except the finger parts, which might cause a miniscule problem, unless I just do something. The other problem is the eyes.
I have a feeling I have to make them with felt fabric. I might have some somewhere.

Doll times ahead

Our granddaughter LOVES Dora, the Explorer. We watched two episodes with her yesterday.
Her enthusiasm and interest on the show was amazing. She knew how to say "abri" and some other main words, which she would remember, but I forgot already.

She has a Dora doll, but this grandma decided that the girl needs a handmade, knitted Dora doll.
Guess what, there is no pattern in the internet for a Dora doll. I should have known it. I had to find a good picture of Dora to model for me.

Hubby and I were looking for yarn in my stash for the doll. We found a few suitable yarns, and I started with one, but then hubby came to me with two skeins, and asked "what about this?" and I screeched, "that's it". The yarn is good old Phentex Merit yarn in true gold. So far I have
knitted the head and half of the body part.

I am very excited about this challenge, and hope from the bottom of my heart that the doll turns out believable enough. If not, then I can say, I tried, and hope that somebody somewhere gets the rights to make a pattern for Dora doll. I am not talking about the charts that one uses to knit a picture on a sweater, I am talking about a DOLL.

What do you know, the picture showed up.

Shawl done

After my great experience at the CGOA Chain Link event and all the freeform stuff, I have recovered, to my humble knowledge. I needed to make a gift for my sis, who has a birthday next Thursday. Well, it's done, with fringes and all. Now, the only thing is that I truly and honestly tried to follow the pattern, and once I knew how the system went, I didn't need the pattern again, just my attention. I could have done it with my eyes closed, but when I did, something happened:

Needless to say, the shawl had the very first row incorrectly done, but I only noticed on the next row, and if any of you have ever tried to frog mohair yarn, you know why I left the design a'la Pirk there. (It's not really noticeable, maybe only by my sister, or her sharp eyed friends), but
believe me, that first row isn't the only one with design cramps. There are more "mistakes" than I want to admit. The shawl is as if swarming with wild cats in a barn.

Well, when I am looking at it from the distance, the flaws, or design cramps, are invisible, so what do I worry. Just put it in an envelope and send it to my sis. and hope she will receive it on her birthday, or at least the next day.

I went, by bus, subway and streetcar, to Romni Wools today. Boy that place is warm. They had two big floor fans going, but that was not enough. I was standing in the middle of an aisle, and the leaking started. I could feel the little stream going down my spine area, I could feel the faucet in my forehead turned wide open. Hey, I stood in front of the fan for a little while, but I had gone to the store to buy yarn, not to stand in front of an inefficient fan. I managed to buy
some Bernats Cool Crochet, HAHAH, even the yarn name was mocking me.

I had no energy, or better yet, inspiration to even pay more careful attention to other yarns. The prices alone wiped the inspiration slate clean. Instead of looking at the yarns, after a few yarn slots, I started staring at the prices, and got totally disgusted and headed to the cashier. I must say that the young ladies, three of them, were great, I just was surprised that the older lady had not learned to treat customers politely. Maybe she was just as warm as I was, or she didn't have her morning coffee yet, it was around noon. Or maybe it was her nose bothering her, it was attached to a string hanging from the ceiling. Kind of difficult not to look down your nose. Well, what do I know, I am just a simple customer.

Well, here is the picture of the shawl. Had to put it in my yahoo pictures, since blogger is having a major tantrum with picture posting.

Just everyday stuff

There are three lanes on one of the roads that lead to my work. There are no "right" turning signs anywhere. Sometimes when I am on my lane, ready to turn to our little street, there is usually some dingaling who is going straight and I have to wait for the lights to change so we can proceed. GGGRRRRR.

This morning, I sort of cut in front of another car, not really, she was "nearly" parked about 200 yards away from the lights. This is one intersection before mine. She wanted to turn right. Heheh, I could see that she was shaking her head in disgust. Oops, I am in the way, and she has to wait for the light to change. For a miniscule second I was annoyed, and told her under my breath that there is no right-turn-only - lanes here, but then remembered my own reaction to the same phenomenon. Then I giggled and I was in a good mood. Yes, I do the same thing, I shake my head in disgust! I was smiling, how silly is that?

One thought came to my mind this morning, on my travels to work. I don't hear too many stories about violence against Tim Hortons coffee place. There are no robberies, no break-ins, etc, and I just wondered about that a little bit. This thought came to my mind when I saw a
police cruiser driving along the road towards Tim's. I see those cars quite often on my way to work. I am just wondering if that has anything to do with anything.

I have recuperated from my trip to Philly, or Valley Forge in King of Prussia. BTW, I should have known at the Toronto Airport that something was going wrong when the officer at the A/C counter was giggling because of the name or the place where I was going. Doesn't everyone know every place in the world? Well, I don't, but I don't work for the Airlines.

I think this is going to be an interesting day. I am full of sarcasm and plausible wit.

Yes, I am back from the trip. I have tons of pictures, and I am truly happy that I went. I really didn't need my suitcase, did I? I managed. It was just so funny to claim my suitcase at Philly airport, WHEN I WAS LEAVING. Hello, there you are, did you miss me?

I think I should do some office work, what do you think?

I started crocheting a Blue Jeans shawl for my sister, who has a birthday next week. Fortunately she knows that her gift is going to be late. It takes at least 5 days to go to her by AIR mail. AIR!!!! aaarrrrggghhh. Will it get there? I should be finished with the shawl by Sunday, unless something more interesting comes up. This shawl gets its boring moments, but I have to do it. It's a pretty shawl, don't get me wrong, but there is nothing freeformish in it. I have found two mistakes already, mistakes, no, design changes. Not going to frog, because the yarn is mohair, Angora Alize Special in deep purple, and frogging aint going to happen.

I was going to post some pictures here, but the blogger isn't in a good mood today.

What a DAY

The day started early around six am, after a three hour sleep. I got ready and happy that I had my suitcase done and all I needed was my morning coffee, shower and get dressed and go to the airport.

We got there quite early. The Air Canada lady was very friendly and there my trip started with a smile. Hubby left for home and I headed for the US customs with my luggage. All went well and I was happy I had kept all the e-mails for the ticket, hotel and the show, to show the customs officer. My next step was the luggage belt. There was a man busy at the belt, telling everyone how to put the luggage with wheel side up etc. He was talking awfully fast, and people were putting the luggage on the belt, just like I did. Except! I also put my carry-on on the belt, without any check- in paper. Oh, I thought the belt was for security check only. It was not. The luggage was on its way to the plane. (I have traveled millions of times, and I just cannot understand how I could have done that kind of a stupid mistake)

Of course I panicked and the man at the belt had to call somewhere to send bag the carry-on that was without the check-in tape. He told me that it might take a while before I get my bag back. I still had lots of time left before my flight. (boy, did I ever). Finally, after about 25 min. Wait, he took me to a baggage place, where I had to wait for mine to show up. I waited and waited, and finally after almost crying, mine appeared on the belt. I screamed in delight "I got it, I got it", Back to the customs with a new paper, and then to find the gate for my flight. Oh, first I had to take a shuttle bus to another terminal.

There was my flight, in time, wait, it was delayed. Oh, well, just twenty minutes or so. I called my friend Carol, who was coming to pick me up from Philly airport, that the flight was going to be late.

Do you still want to hear about this?

Well, up to you.

Then a little while later, after browsing at a little magazine/candy/whatever store, Carol called and told me that the flight was cancelled. I had not checked the board for a while, and sure, CANCELLED. In panic, many of us were standing at the AC desk, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. There was another flight shortly after, and a computer picked up names randomly, for that flight, because there were a few seats available.
Needless to say, my name was not called. I called AC, and got another flight for the same night.
At 9:25 pm, arriving here at 11 pm. Well, I had no choice, if I wanted to be here for the show, so I said yes.

HOWEVER, another passenger and I stood at the counter, like lost puppies, and it paid the price, we were put on a stand-by list. Life looked a little better. All I needed now, was to hear my name, when they were ready to start the procedures. It was a long wait, from 2 pm to 4 pm, I think, if not longer, it felt like trillion minutes. YESSSS, they called my name. I got in on an earlier flight, and life was better, once again.

I have quite a few long distance cellphone calls, I don't want to see my next invoice.

Yes, I arrived at Philly and walked to baggage place, and waited for the turning belt to bring my luggage to my arms. Hah, nada, my luggage was not there. I had to fill in a form, and now wait.

I have no change clothes, nothing, only one pair of rubber sandals (they have a name, but who remembers it now?) It's 12:15 am, and I don;t have my stuff.

Carol and her hubby took me for dinner to the Cheesefactory. I had a meatloaf sandwich, with fries and cole-slaw. I ate half the sandwiches, three or four french fries, and some salad.
The meatloaf sandwich was from heaven. I cannot make it that tasty.

We also had apple dumpling for dessert, but could only eat a little bit.

That's it, and now I am going to sleep. Good Night!

Oh, I missed the sneak peak at the market place, missed all. Tomorrow is another day.

Big Event coming up

I am getting way too excited about going to the CGOA Knit and Crochet Show, in King of Prussia, PA.

Instead of finishing a freeform vest to wear at the show, I made a little purse for my cellphone. Now I have two of them. One with beads, which I will use when I go for dinner, and the one I made last night, I will use on casual events. The beaded one was a gift from a friend.

Here is the one I made last night. I already added a little butterfly on it, but no picture of that.
It's a tiny pouch, fits the phone and there is a little pocket inside for the business cards, I am planning to take with me.

I don't have a business, but hubby made some nice cards for me.

Ok, have to go and make some lists for the trip.

Pet talk

I don't think I ever mentioned that I too have a cat. His name is Oliver. He is now 12 years old. He's an only "child", and he behaves like a spoiled brat. Just this morning he was playing with my knee, and then decided that I wasn't paying too much attention, so he hit me with one of the sharpest nails he has. I knew he wanted me to go to the kitchen with him, so he could had a snack from his dish. But I was busy minding my own business.
He does not care for my knitting stuff. He totally ignores the yarns, hooks that fall on the floor, the lazy bum. He is supposed to chase after the rolling ball of yarn, but no, he just looks. These pictures were taken when he was napping, and he was not too amused to be disturbed. Can't you tell?

Oliver sleeps most of the day, unless he decides to be a pest in the kitchen when I'm cooking.

Like all cats, Oliver loves boxes and here he is

World Cup Knitting Project update 2

It's done!!!! I did it! I am so proud of myself.

After the "I'll give up" episode yesterday, I told myself to just get going, and I did.

I had to add to the sides, since something happened with the measurements after the initial start, the vest was too small. I had to do the neckband twice, or three times, I forgot, because for some reason the band was too loose. It's not perfect now, but it will do. I also had to do the armhole bands twice, because I didn't pick as many stitches as in the pattern. Oh, who cares, it's done, right. The cables are perfect and the colors are perfect, and the vest is done, fits hubby and he likes it. I cannot always be perfect. Once in a blue moon I can make something that isn't quite to my own expectations. There, I said it.

World Cup Knitting Project update

Yes, some update. I was happily knitting all last night. First at a knitting meet-up with some members from our T-Rocks group (it's one of the knitting groups in Toronto). Anyhoo, I knitted quite a bit at the meeting, and believe or not, continued knitting when I arrived home around 9 (pm). I knitted until 1 a.m., was happy that the vest was almost done. Then the reality hit me, the neckband was loose, I had used needles that were too big for ribbing around the neck.

I went to bed and hoped that when I wake up, the neckband would be ok. I tried the dang vest
on hubby in the morning, and it was TOO SMALLLLLL. Either he had gained weight during these weeks (he doesn't look it), or the knitting shrunk. Which I believe is more realistic than the weight gain. Well, hubby was great, he told me to add on the sides. I said it will not look right, he told me to use the other color, and told me that it doesn't matter, because it is something I made for him in the colors he chose. Must love that guy.

So, I frogged the neckband, changed to smaller needles, knitted a few rows, which looks much better now. I started making the side pieces. I left the neckband for now, because I am not sure if I want the stripes on it or not. I have to think about it while making the side pieces. I am angry with myself that I was working on other things when I could have finished the vest a long time ago.

What does all this mean? I am not going to be done by the 9th, because I want to work on my freeform vest, too. I don't have too many days left before my trip to Valley Forge.

Another bookmark

The pattern came from another blogger's site. I had to make it.

I might make more, later, but right now I think I have had enough of making bookmarks. Thankyouverymuch.

Knitted pants

I was not going to post anything today, since my mind is totally resting. I changed my mind, when this picture appeared in my view. This is in "Knit 1" summer 2006 issue. Perfect for the summer wear.

Makes me remember the days when my mom knitted wool pants for us kids to wear in winter. They were GREY, and
they were warm, but oh, so ugly. These ones have some sort of pattern design, at least, and suspenders. We had only elastic waist band, to hold the pants.

Oh, and another thing, too. We would have NEVER worn the pants if any of our friends knew we had them (most of us did). And outside, yet. wooohooo.

Nice vest.

If you have the magazine, check the shawl on page 43, design by Noreen Crone-Findlay.

Something that I need to make one of these days.

Bookmarks

This is the picture I tried posting the other day. I have no idea what happened. Our granddaughter is eating stuffed mini pita. She loved them.

I have bravely joined a bookmark exchange in one of my crochet groups. I have made three so far, although I only need one to send out. Somehow I felt I needed to make more. Now I have to choose the one to send out.

It's been a lazy day, except grocery shopping earlier in the day. I think I better finish the World Cup Knitting project. I still have at least four hours to work on it. Cables are not too quick to make, when there are so many, but I like making them.

The two bookmarks are from Hooked on Crochet, the latest issue, which I have mentioned already. One with the ribbon is Brenda Stratton's pattern. The one in the middle is from the web, and is here. The design is by Priscilla Hewitt.

Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!

We went to our friends for a BBQ. We were to go there around 4-5 pm, but no specific time was really given. Usually we arrive first to these parties. Needless to say, we had to watch Brazil and France play. After the game we left for the party. I had made some mini stuffed pitas. I used tuna and ham for stuffing. I decorated the dish with toothpicks that had a tiny Canada flag on them.

My hamburger was delicious. I should have eaten only that one, but no, I had to take a piece of chicken and a small pork chop, which I didn't eat, because it was flavored with something sweet, and I didn't expect that flavor on my pork chop. I like them with white pepper and salt, nothing else. Of course I had to taste the chicken, which wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as the hamburger. The chicken was cold, but was not bad, really!

For some reason, it started raining, and we had to run inside. I thought that all Canada Days were sunny, warm and no rain nowhere. This is what I remember from previous celebrations.
Some of the most memorable Canada Days were in small towns, out from our big city. Don't ask me why, but I miss driving around the countryside. We have not done that for a while.

For dessert we had fresh fruit and cake, layered with whipping cream, strawberries and blueberries. Oh, I should have left that on the plate. Should have, should have....mango should have been enough for dessert. ACK.

Ok, I am full and not too happy with myself.

Aside from eating, I was crocheting all day before the party. I have not finished my World Cup Knitting project yet. I have the front done, except the ribbing in the neck and arm holes. I think I have about one night work to do with the back piece, but I am determined to finish all before the games are finished.

My crochet work is aimless stuff. I think I am going to be able to make a freeform vest before the CGOA Chain Link Show, but I will take a day off from work, if I need it. The problem I have with the vest is that I have two different color themes. One is with turquoise and the other yellow shades. I really don't want to mix those two together at this point. I might get nothing finished before the show, and it's not going to upset me too much. My heart isn't on those projects. My heart isn't on anything right now, really. I just work on stuff, for no apparent goal in mind. Well, yes, I have a goal, but it's too much to reach at this point.

Here is how I made the stuffing for mini pitas:

Two cans of flaked tuna in water,
mix with:
no fat mayo
white pepper
chopped onion
oregano

Two cans of ham
mix with
white pepper
chopped onion
Dijon mustard
horseradish
some grated Parmesan cheese
no fat mayo

of course you can use your imagination to mix the tuna and ham with anything you want.

I made about 40 of these little pitas, and all was eaten. Our granddaughter helped in the eating process.

One Word Fun

Here is something new (to me), oneword. I think I want to try again, with a different word. I hope it changes daily. I found the link in Janet's blog. I did mine with the word "sketch". Made me think that I really should take my sketch pad out, draw something. I have had too many "signs" floating around to make me do some drawing.

Maybe there is a reason why I am so restless these days. My attention span is broken.

Don't think that I am bored or anything, right now, I am just waiting for our lunch hour. We are ordering pizza. Haven't had that for eons. I have a great salad that my hubby made, but I will save it for dinner tonight. Today is going to be a day for FOOD. I do not care if I have to watch what I eat. I do not care. Someone brought in a dozen of Tim's donuts. AAARGGGH. I had an apple fritter. So what?

World Cup Doll

Doll is crocheted and uniform knitted.
I had to do something else, other than
senseless hooking.

Friday - NOT

I feel like it's Friday, but it's only Thursday. I also feel as my crochet/knit phase is idling. I just can't get the hang of it. I tried again last night, but created nothing else but more confusing scrumbles that don't go with anything else. Such is life.

I went to the post-office to mail a little parcel to my friend Sarah. But, first I stopped at a magazine store and bought: "Hooked on Crochet", because it had a Friendship bookmark, designed by Dionne Barratt, and another bookmark "Shells & Lace", designed by Brenda Stratton. I recently joined a bookmark exchange program in one of my many yahoo groups, and These bookmarks are just too cute to pass.

You want to hear more of my shopping?

I bought "Knitter's" Summer 2006 issue, from UK. I have not looked inside yet. tsk tsk,
Also in my shopping bag there is a copy of "Simply Knitting" WITH a free circular needle. I love this magazine, because it always has a freebie. I have not opened the package yet, but on the cover I can see some interesting items. I didn't buy the magazine for the needle, ok.

And one more, don't you love it, when you go to a magazine store and there are all kinds of new knitting and crocheting magazines.

The last one is "Knitting" June 2006, also from England, or should I say UK. No freebies with this magazine, but I like the magazine.

Some people ask me why I need so many magazines. I need to look at them, get ideas, inspiration, and once in a while I will make something from one of the patterns, or something similar. Other people buy other magazines, but I really don't ask, why they buy them. There are so many magazines available, in all different fields of interest, but my magazines are equally important to me as something else is for someone else.

I did go to the post-office, after the mag. shopping spree.

Why, oh why, do I always get a bus in front of me, loading three million people, and I have to wait for it, because I am turning, and there is no freeegging way that I will turn from in front of the bus. So I wait. And every intersection had a bus, plus red lights. This only happens when I want to do the trip quickly, so I don't lose too much time from my lunch hour, which now will be only 30 minutes, thanks to the post-office trip. (which should have been only 15 minutes in total).

Back to FreeForm stuff

I have missed my scrumbling. There has been so many "pattern" pieces lately that I started feeling uneasy with my abilities.

So, I noticed, last night, for example, that my scrumbling was lame. Of course my hook was traveling through the loops, but the yarn was screaming "what are you doing?". One cyber friend suggested that I use one type of yarn, and do just texture. This is what I am planning to do today, thanks to Bonnie.

A friend of mine, Carol, told me to do my thing, that I have done more difficult projects in less time than 3.5 weeks. I told her that I wanted to make something wild for the show in PA, in July. She told me to go for it, Thanks, Carol. Now, it's only 3 weeks, the half week disappeared.

Now that I have gotten my inspiration to flicker, I might have to let my "pattern" phase pass.
Except the World Cup Knitting project. That one I will finish in no time, because I like making cables.

Those two pieces are not very talkative. And I am sure they look strange and impossible to fit into anything. But I must remember, I am planning to make something wild. Something that
would scream "what the heck is THAT?" I am not truly sure if I will be ready for that type attention, but a girl can dream.

I can't wait to see all the beautiful FreeForm pieces that are displayed at the Chain Link 2006 show, where I am going in July, King of Prussia, PA. I just can't wait to get there.

Ok, I promise not to talk too much about going to PA. I tend to yap about same thing over and over, so slap me, if I do.

Made a butterfly with the shawl yarn, added it on the bottom tip of the shawl.

Red Scarf

Now that I have knitted all last night, and most of today, my hands (fingers and wrists) are covered with menthol smelling cream. Sometimes I am too stubborn. Well, I needed to finish the scarf for tomorrow...birthday gift. I did it. Actually, I could have made it longer than it is now (140 cm), but I gave in to the pain in my fingers. My friend, Sherri, keeps telling me to take a break, not to overdo anything. Sometimes I listen to her, and sometimes not.

I quit knitting, and finished the scarf, because I started dropping stitches. Have you ever knitted with size 6 mm aluminum needles, 25 stitches on the needles, using Bernat's Matrix "yarn"? It's like some sort of ladder thingy. Two very thin side strings connected in the middle by a blob of something, in red and black. The side strings are black.
Oh, well, here is a picture.

So, if you ever want to make something with this yarn, use very pointy needles, and not heavy, and DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES drop stitches, unless you like picking stitches that don't make any sense whatsoever. Garter stitch is a simple stitch, but when Matrix ribbon starts running with a wicked laugh, you are in trouble. If your fingers are numb and tingling or aching, do not attempt to pick the running stitch(es), WAIT, until all the pain is gone, and then try, with patience.

Other than that, I truly like the way this scarf came out. I hope the recipient will be happy with it. At least I found a nice bag for the gift.

Sheer Shawl

Done. I knitted all night, finishing off the sides. I still have some yarn ends to hide, but not many, since the shawl only took 3 1/2 - 50 gr. skeins Yarn is Bernat's Cool Crochet, and the pattern is from Modular Knits, by Iris Schreier.

I took another picture of the shawl today, it shows more of the shape.

Now I will get back to my World Cup Knitting project.

When is the shawl done?

If you need to know, I am snacking on turnip.

I have neglected my World Cup Knitting. It's sitting pretty in a bag, on the floor, shame, shame, on me. I hav been knitting this (in the picture) Sheer One Piece Shawl from Iris Schreier book Modular Knits.

This morning, I decided that I needed to start another project. Are we already getting tired of this? I need to make some little flowers for my capri pants. That will not take long, right?

Well, the shawl takes longer to make than I expected, but it is gorgeous, already. I am not using the same yarn as in the pattern, do I ever? But I am using a great yarn from Bernat "Cool Crochet" in Neopealitan (you like the spelling?) like the ice-cream, which isn't my first choice, but that is another story.

I don't eat ice-cream these days, just turnip, carrots, apples, kiwi, etc. etc. and no chocolate. although I found some little christmas chocolate balls in a jar, on the bookshelf, so I had about 10 but it doesn't really count, because it took a great effort to get the foil wrapping off the little balls. Besides, I had diet Pepsi with them. oh, and broccoli, and such.

BTW - This is the book!

Dosha

I got this little test from Janet's blog:

Your Dosha is Kapha
Calm and grounded, you are not prone to mood swings or anger. However, once you do get angry, it takes a lot to cool you down. You tend to think a little slower than most people, but your logic is astounding. Overall, you very loyal and trustworthy. You're not scared of being who you really are.
With friends: You enjoy their company, but often listen more than talk
In love: You crave connection and affection. It's hard for you to be single.
To achieve more balance: Exercise vigorously (especially in the sun) and let go of attachments.
My logic is astounding? Don't tell this to anyone I know, or who knows me; they will die from laughing.
What is logic anyway? I nearly failed logic in high-school.
I think slower, because I have too many things in my head at the same time. do I have to explain this?
BTW, This is for fun, not to be taken seriously....OH YEAAAH?

Monday not so blue

Actually, I am in a good mood, go figure. Must be the beautiful green teeshirt I am wearing. The green is beautiful, the teeshirt is just a teeshirt.

Just now, as I was quickly hiding the screen, my boss walked in with a shopping bag.
She had a red jacket and a long sleeveless dress, from Cactus, in the bag. Guess what! She gave
the outfit to ME, TO ME, TO ME!!! She said she knows I like their stuff. She buys that line when ever she goes to her trips.

This Monday is not even close to Monday stereotype.

Back to earth. I didn't get any more World Cup Knitting done, since the picture from the other day. Instead, I was knitting the shawl, the multidirectional, you know, plus a new project.

A friend of ours is having a birthday bash on Sunday, and I started to knit a scarf for her. The yarn is Bernat's Matrix, and it's red and black. Makes a nice summer scarf. I have to finish it
by Saturday, because I am going to be very busy on Saturday, so no time for knitting or crocheting. The piece in the picture is 21 (8.5") cm long, and I need to make it about 150 cm.

The picture is not showing the real red. I don't have my good photoshop here in the office, just the basic, and it does not give me too much choice to play around, like the one at home.

I might take a picture of it with my camera and see what happens. I think the scarf is going to be neat. In my books: unusual. And the birthday girl will love it.

Vesting interest

This is the last picture today. I am switching to knitting my multidirectional shawl, after dinner.

Day 2 World Cup Knitting

I promised not to post pictures of every stitch I make on my project, so I lied. Here are two.

I have not knitted this one continuously, because Iwas also knitting the multidirectional shawl last night. I need at least two projects at the same time.

World Cup Knitting project is coming nicely, in my opinion.

World Cup Knitting Project

I promise not to post a picture of each stitch I am picking, but here is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

New Project, again

I wish it was June the 9th, so I could start on the World Cup Knitting project.

In the book, Modular Knits, by Iris Schreier, there is a shawl I started last night. I am using
Bernat's Cool Crochet, which is fairly slippery, specially since the needles I am using are a tad too big.

Here is a pic of the start

It's now the 9th of June. I had saved the above as a draft, and forgot all about it. Well, the problem was that the blogger didn't allow me to post the picture, and was giving me hard time in general, so I got fed up. That was on June 6th.

I have done a lot more of that shawl, actually the side now measures about 30 cm, in this picture it is probably about 10 cm, I want to make it bigger, so a few more inches to go before I go for the next step.

Today is the kick-off , and I would start my project but don't have any of it with me at work. I could do some at lunch, but I go home at noon! YIPPEEE. Our summer hours, you see. Our staff has been divided into two groups, and each group gets half Friday off at summertime. It's still spring, but I am not complaining. We started these half Fridays in May.

Have to do some work now, bye, and good luck to anyone who is participating in WCK project!

Later in the afternoon, Friday the 9th.

I decided to put a picture of the shawl start, because I have lot more on it than the picture above has.

Friday stuff

I hate it when the week goes by and I have done nothing productive.

Our Granddaughter is now in the hospital and is diagnosed with asthma. Poor little thing.

I went to see her last night, and she was sort of ok, but breathing rapidly, still. She had some tubes in her arm and foot. She liked the gravy that came with mashed potatoes, turkey and broccoli. She also ate the raisins from the rice pudding. And lots of juice.
She is going to stay another night, and hubby and I will go and visit her today, after my work.
Hubby went this morning.

On the knit/crochet site, nothing, really, to report. It's been more or less looking for yarns, sorting them in the zip-log bags, by colors, or by brands. I have started a skirt for granddaughter, with Anne cotton, but made a mistake, in my humble opinion (read this like: in my wicked opinion) I don't like the turquoise/cream combo I am using. I SHOULD HAVE bought the light blue to go with the turquoise, but nooo, I wasn't thinking. I am sure I would have some other color combo in my stash, if I felt like lifting two million boxes and containers to get to the bottom container, where all my Anne and Clea yarns are. See, I am "somewhat" organized. Haha. Anne and Clea yarns are in one box, and Patons Grace yarns are in another box. I wish I could say the same with everything else.

I think I have the too many WIPs syndrome this week, I feel totally uninspired to start something that would keep my interest to the end. Hopefully this weekend will change my mood.
